Haarlem Railway Station Canopy and Art Nouveau Interior
23 May 2025 · Haarlem
The cast-iron canopy ribs of Haarlem railway station arc overhead in deep shadow, pulling the eye toward a single skylight cut into the roof — the one source of diffuse daylight against the dark ironwork. Below it, the tiled HAARLEM nameplate sits flush in the brick facade, unhurried, as if the station has been signing its own name for a century and sees no reason to stop. Structure carries the weight here; the geometry does the work the light doesn't need to.
