Two boats sit moored on the Spaarne in Haarlem, the white rowing boat named after the city itself. A heavy overcast sky presses down on the water, turning the canal dark and still. The historic waterfront stretches behind — Dutch gabled houses, a church tower, cobblestone quay — the whole scene weighted by cloud, anchored by the plainest detail: a name painted on a hull.
