Haarlem Brick Facade and Mackerel Sky
23 May 2025 · Haarlem
Upward from street level, the ivy-clad brick facade of a Haarlem institutional building fills the lower frame while a mackerel altocumulus sky claims the upper half in equal measure. The mansard roof and octagonal cupola sit at the boundary between the two — the architecture holds its ground, and the sky pushes back with the same authority. Monochrome strips the terracotta and the grey clouds to the same tonal register, which is where the real argument between them becomes visible.
