Grote Kerk Haarlem — Gothic Nave from Below
23 May 2025 · Haarlem
Shot from directly below the nave wall, the Grote Kerk in Haarlem stops being a building and becomes a converging line of brick, tracery, and stone gable driving straight into the sky. The worm's-eye angle collapses the full height of the facade into a single compressed blade — the overcast sky overhead is not a backdrop but the space the structure cuts through. Dutch Gothic architecture at this scale is built to be looked up at; most photographs don't take that instruction literally.
