Amsterdamse Poort rises from the canal edge in Haarlem, its medieval brick mass compressed against a turbulent overcast sky. Shot from water level, the low angle flattens the gate's towers into a single imposing silhouette — the arch at its base still open, still functional after six centuries. The still canal foreground holds a faint reflection of the fortification, anchoring the structure to the city it once defended rather than lifting it into monument.
