Gothic Church Gable and Storm Sky, Haarlem
23 May 2025 · Haarlem
Shot from street level, the camera tilted hard upward, this frame stacks a slate roof, a stepped brick gable, and the Gothic tower of a Haarlem church into a single compressed column. The overcast sky isn't backdrop — it fills two-thirds of the frame, its bruised cloud mass doing the same tonal work as the stone beneath it. Monochrome pulls the red shutters and warm brick toward the same mid-grey as the slate, collapsing the colour distance and letting the geometry speak. The stepped gable carries the eye up to a spire that disappears into cloud.
