Verwey-Hal stands on the Groot Heiligland in Haarlem with the certainty of a building that knows what it is. The inscription frieze — MODERNE KUNST VERWEY HAL spread across four panels — turns the facade into a typographic composition as much as an architectural one; the lettering isn't decoration, it's structure. White ornamental cornicing and a balustraded parapet press against red brick below, and a mackerel sky fills the upper half of the frame, giving the whole elevation the weight it deserves.
