Coster Statue and Sint-Bavokerk, Grote Markt Haarlem
23 May 2025 · Haarlem
Laurens Janszoon Coster stands over the Grote Markt with one arm raised, the bronze patina darkened against a churning sky. Sint-Bavokerk fills the right edge of the frame — its Gothic buttresses as insistent as the clouds massing behind the figure. The low-angle framing is deliberate: it hands the sky equal weight as the architecture, letting the turbulence carry the composition as much as the stonework does. Monument and weather push against each other, and neither yields.
