Amsterdamse Poort, Haarlem — Twin Towers and Arch Gateway
23 May 2025 · Haarlem
Amsterdamse Poort stands as Haarlem's last surviving medieval city gate, and this upward angle makes the geometry unmistakable — twin turrets flanking a central arch, the whole structure pulling toward a storm-heavy sky. The arch frames a second sky through the passage below, so the photo carries two compositional layers at once: the gate as subject, and the street beyond as consequence. Dark brick against churning cloud is the building at its most graphic, the kind of bilateral symmetry that the structure was never trying to hide.
