De Adriaan Windmill on the Spaarne, Haarlem

De Adriaan stands on its pier at the edge of the Spaarne, a brick-and-timber structure that has anchored this stretch of Haarlem's waterfront for centuries. The storm sky overhead pulls the frame in two directions at once — the windmill holds its ground as something fixed and particular, while the cloud mass above it rolls through indifferent to all of that. Together they make the geometry of the thing legible in a way a clear sky never would.
