ENCI-Groeve Limestone Quarry, Sint-Pietersberg
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
The ENCI-groeve quarry basin opens wide under a clear winter sky, its terraced limestone benches stepping down in broad horizontal bands toward the gravel floor below. Shallow pools collect between the ridges, reflecting blue sky where machinery once worked the chalk. The scale of the excavation reads plainly in the geometry — each terrace a ledge left by decades of extraction, now giving way to sparse dry grasses and scrub at the edges. Sint-Pietersberg's rewilding is slow and incremental, but the post-industrial landscape already carries its own austere character.
