Gravel Path at ENCI-Groeve, Sint-Pietersberg

A gravel path runs straight into the former ENCI quarry at Sint-Pietersberg, South Limburg, flanked by bare winter scrub on one side and a low fence on the other. Ahead, the ochre chalk cliff face catches the winter sun — warm stone against a cold, clear blue sky. The path is the subject; the cliff is what it leads to. Two simple things, and the whole geology of the place lands between them.
