ENCI-groeve Quarry Pond, Sint-Pietersberg, Maastricht
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
Sint-Pietersberg holds centuries of extraction in its limestone face — the carved cave openings running along the cliff, the horizontal strata laid bare by quarrying, the cement plant machinery still visible at the ridge. At the base, a still pond has claimed the quarry floor, mirroring the chalk wall above it. Still water and cut stone pull in opposite directions: the geology is industrial scar, the reflection is something closer to landscape. Nature reclamation at ENCI-groeve works exactly like this — not erasing the extraction but growing around it until the two are inseparable.
