Flooded ENCI Quarry, Sint-Pietersberg at Golden Hour
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
The flooded ENCI-groeve at Sint-Pietersberg near Maastricht holds its stillness in the last light of an autumn afternoon. Reed beds catch the warm gold along the near bank, their reflection stretched across water that was once a working limestone quarry. The cliff face above still carries the excavated niches cut into the geological strata — industrial archaeology absorbed quietly into a nature reserve. The site does two things at once: it remembers what it was and gets on with being something else.
