False Door Carved in Marl, Sint-Pietersberg Quarry
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
A false door panel cut into the marl wall of Sint-Pietersberg's underground quarry network, lit by raking light that drags every groove and score mark into relief. The surface reads as a carved architectural plane — vertical slots dividing the stone into columns, lower registers dense with scratched inscriptions left by centuries of visitors. Monochrome strips the warm marlstone to its tonal weight: shadow pools in the cut joints, pale dust settles at the base, and the texture does all the work a colour photograph would spend on atmosphere.
