Bricked-Up Doorway, Sint-Pietersberg Limestone Quarry
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
A sealed passage cut into the limestone at Sint-Pietersberg's ENCI-groeve, Maastricht region. The doorway is bricked up flush with the carved stone portal, while raking golden-hour light pulls every ashlar joint and weathered surface into sharp relief. Shadow from the access railing falls hard across the right wall, adding a second layer of geometry over the hewn marl. The quarry has a thousand years of markings — graffiti scratched into soft stone, blocked passages, layered masonry — and this corner holds all of them at once.
