Flooded Quarry at Sint-Pietersberg, Maastricht
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
ENCI-groeve in autumn, the water flat and still enough to hold the terraced limestone walls twice over. The stepped benches cut into Sint-Pietersberg's marl record decades of extraction in plain stratigraphy — layer by layer, each one a different shade of cream and grey. Industry shaped the ground; the water moved in quietly and made something else of it. The same stillness that signals absence here also makes the geometry legible in a way the working quarry never could.
