Sint-Pietersberg's chalk escarpment holds the ENCI cement works against a clear winter sky, the chimney stack rising above terraced quarry walls and bare trees. The quarry pond in the foreground doubles the composition — chimney and sky inverted in still water, the industrial and the elemental sharing the same frame. A winter afternoon with no wind and flat, even light makes the reflection exact. The plant sits at the edge of the hill as if pressed into the landscape rather than placed on it.
