A conical aggregate mound rises from the edge of the flooded ENCI quarry pit at Sint-Pietersberg, its silhouette mirrored in still, blue-green water beneath a backlit winter sky. The sun sits low and hard to the left, flaring across the gravel slopes and catching bare birch branches in the foreground. Industrial extraction and standing water occupy the same frame: one is the wound, the other the slow fill. The wide quarry floor stretches toward a treeline in the flat Maastricht hinterland, the whole scene stripped to gravel, sky, and reflection.
