Gravel Track at Sint-Pietersberg Chalk Quarry, Limburg

A gravel access road cuts along the base of the chalk escarpment at Sint-Pietersberg, the old ENCI-groeve quarry face rising to the left in layers of exposed limestone and sandy soil. A wire fence lines the right edge, pulling the eye toward the tree line and the low winter sun beyond. Above it all, a contrail arcs wide across the deep blue — the sky doing as much compositional work as the track below. The quarry face records deep time; the contrail erases itself within the hour.
