Flooded Quarry at Sint-Pietersberg, Maastricht
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
The ENCI-groeve near Maastricht frames itself as a bowl — the flooded pit floor catching the sky, the silhouetted rim holding everything in. Shot contre-jour at low winter sun, the water picks up the glare while the surrounding fields drop into shadow. A working quarry long closed, the landscape now belongs to itself: rewilding steadily, the water permanent where limestone once was. The light is bright at the centre and dark at the edges — which is exactly what the place does to attention too.
