ENCI-groeve Limestone Quarry, Sint-Pietersberg, Maastricht
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
Sint-Pietersberg holds the two ends of the same story in one frame. The raw chalk escarpment on the left — stripped geology, bare winter scrub, amber clay catching the low sun — sits in the same sight line as the cement silos of the ENCI-groeve plant, with the Meuse valley stretching flat to the horizon beyond. The quarry gave the hillside its shape; the plant made that extraction industrial-scale. What remains is a landscape that is simultaneously wound and working, with the early rewilding of the lower slopes suggesting the third chapter already underway.
