Low winter sun sits directly over the flooded quarry at ENCI-Groeve, Sint-Pietersberg, burning into a clear blue sky while its reflection holds perfectly still on the water below. The terraced quarry walls drop into deep shadow on either side, turning extraction scars into structural framing. Still water is always an equaliser — it doubles the sky exactly, indifferent to what the land around it has been through. This is a site in the slow process of becoming something else: industrial heritage edging towards rewilded landscape, one still morning at a time.
