ENCI-groeve Limestone Quarry, Sint-Pietersberg, Maastricht
8 February 2026 · ENCI-groeve Sint-Pietersberg
The ENCI-groeve quarry on Sint-Pietersberg reads as geology made visible — stepped limestone terraces cut in horizontal bands from floor to treeline, each bench a layer of sedimentary time. Still water sits in the flooded basin at the bottom, holding a mirror to the terraced walls above it. The quarry floor is raw: pale chalk rubble, bare winter scrub, the quiet that comes after extraction stops. Geometry this precise usually belongs to architecture; here it belongs to the hill.
