Oostpoort Delft — Medieval City Gate and Drawbridge

Oostpoort is the last surviving medieval city gate in Delft, and it earns the title. Two brick towers rise from the canal bank, framed by willow trees and a white drawbridge that cuts a clean axis through the frame. The gate is monumental in scale; the drawbridge and the water keep it grounded in the everyday city around it. Shot in summer under a partly clouded sky, the structure reads as much as a graphic plane as it does a historical record.
