Delft Stadhuis on the Markt — Dutch Renaissance Civic Architecture
29 May 2026 · Delft
Stadhuis Delft anchors the Markt with the kind of civic confidence that Dutch Renaissance architects built in stone and meant to last. The clock tower rises above the square's wide cobblestone apron, flanked by the brick canal-side facades that frame the city centre on both sides. It is a building that demands the open space in front of it — the geometry of the square is as much part of the composition as the architecture itself. Dramatic summer clouds pile up behind the tower, giving the scene a depth that daylight alone rarely delivers.
