Gothic Revival Church Portal, Delft
29 May 2026 · Delft
A plane tree's canopy arches over the square, its branches tracing a natural frame that lands almost exactly on the Gothic Revival portal below. The brick facade of this Delft church carries its carved tympanum — figures clustered around a central Christ — above warm wooden doors fitted with wrought-iron straps. Two bicycles parked at the steps keep it grounded in the everyday Netherlands rather than the devotional. The overcast summer light flattens the shadows and lets the stonework read clearly, each carved detail holding its own against the dark brick surround.
