Oostpoort Turret, Delft — Medieval Brick Tower Detail
29 May 2026 · Delft
Delft's Oostpoort rises in tight vertical bands of weathered brick, the cylindrical turret transitioning through an octagonal drum before the slate spire cuts into a summer blue sky. Shot from directly below, the upward perspective compresses centuries of Dutch medieval masonry into a single graphic column. The carved stone relief panel on the left wall — saints rendered in Gothic niches — holds its own weight without pulling focus from the tower's dominant line. Architecture as layered record: one wall carries the fortification, the other carries the devotion.
