Delft City Hall — Dutch Renaissance Facade on the Markt
29 May 2026 · Delft
Stadhuis Delft commands the Markt with a symmetry that leaves no ambiguity about who built it or why. Hendrick de Keyser's Renaissance facade stacks stone pilasters, gilded ornament, and a heraldic pediment into a composition that reads as civic authority made structural. The red shutters punctuate the stone grid at regular intervals — decorative on the surface, load-bearing for the eye. A dramatic cloud break opens directly above the central pediment, doing the compositional work that separates this from a record shot.
