Delft Canal Reflection, Historic City Centre
29 May 2026 · Delft
A narrow gracht in Delft's historic centre, flanked by brick canal houses and a tree-lined quay. The still water doubles the facades in a near-perfect mirror — the canal's depth inverted into its own surface, the overcast spring sky held flat between them. A lone figure sits at the railing in the middle distance, unhurried, while the recession of buildings and bridges draws the eye toward the pale horizon. Atmospheric conditions like this — flat cloud diffusing the light without flattening the scene — are what make the Dutch city canal a subject rather than a backdrop.
