Oostpoort Delft — Twin Spires Against a Backlit Sky
29 May 2026 · Delft
Delft's Oostpoort reduces to pure silhouette when the sun sits directly behind its twin Gothic spires. Shot from the drawbridge approach on herringbone cobblestone, the contre-jour light strips every surface detail and leaves the geometry standing on its own — two needle points pressed into a cloud-wrapped sky. The gate is medieval architecture at its most graphic: bilateral symmetry, decisive verticals, nothing decorative surviving the backlight.
