Steam and smoke rise from a heavy industry complex in Maastricht, the plume climbing until it becomes indistinguishable from the cumulus clouds above. A domed storage tank anchors the foreground in shadow, grounding the frame against the restless sky. The factory buildings — brick, glass, corrugated green cladding — spread across the middle distance, their chimneys and pipework still working. Sky and emission share the same space here; the boundary between manufactured and meteorological dissolves at the top of the frame.
