Steel Arch Bridge Over the Maas Canal, Maastricht

A Dutch towpath in summer, with cow parsley spilling over the canal bank and a steel arch bridge holding the horizon flat. The sky does most of the work here — cumulus clouds stacked two-thirds of the way up the frame, bright enough to pull the eye before the water or the bridge does. Industrial infrastructure on the left bank, a pumping station anchoring the edge of the composition, and the whole scene threaded together by the diagonal line of the towpath running back into the frame. Stillness on the ground, movement overhead.
