Wide concrete steps climb a grass embankment in Maastricht, flanked by street lamps and bordered by loose stone on one side. The staircase draws the eye upward in a clean vanishing point — orderly, functional, built to last. Above the crest, a bank of summer cumulus pushes in from the right, deep and billowing against an open blue sky. The infrastructure is settled and still; the sky is anything but.
