Sint Servaasbrug carries the eye straight into the Maastricht skyline, where church spires — including Sint-Janskerk — punctuate a city that has been reading the Maas for centuries. In the foreground, a water gauge and navigation sign mark the river's edge with the matter-of-fact precision of Dutch infrastructure. The cloud mass above does compositional work the bridge alone couldn't: it fills half the frame with light and weight simultaneously, pressing the skyline into clarity below.
