Brick mass rising from the quay — the central tower of Maastricht's industrial waterfront pushes flat against a sky full of cumulus cloud, anchoring the composition the way a church spire does in quieter subjects. The repetition of industrial windows, stacked across six floors on the left and narrowed to vertical slots on the tower, gives the facade its graphic weight. A blue construction crane at the quayside is the only concession to movement; everything else holds still against the water.
