Industrial Waterfront at Maastricht Dry Dock

A rusted gantry crane dominates the left bank, its open steel frame held against a sky stacked with cumulus. To the right, brick warehouses carry decades of grime and graffiti down to the water's edge. The still surface of the harbour doubles the weight of the scene — the sky large and alive, the buildings below it fixed and decaying. Industrial heritage in the Netherlands rarely announces itself this plainly.
