Grote Kerk Breda — Gothic Portal in Monochrome
12 May 2026 · Breda
The pointed arch of the Grote Kerk Breda rises from dressed limestone that has been absorbing Noord-Brabant weather for six centuries. Shot straight on, the portal geometry does the work — the cobblestone forecourt pulls the eye in, and the overcast sky flattens the stone to a near-uniform grey that strips the facade down to line and mass. The flanking exhibition banners mark the building as still in use, still asking something of the people who pass through it — ancient form, present argument.
