Leiden Church Spire Against Deep Blue Sky
4 May 2025 · Leiden
The Pieterskerk tower in Leiden rises in clean octagonal stages — red brick banded in white stone at the base, then a lead-clad spire stacking tier on tier toward a gilded weather vane. The gold clock face is the one warm note in an otherwise architectural dialogue between brick and sky. The structure does exactly what a Dutch Reformed tower should: state its presence plainly and let the geometry do the persuading.
