Gothic Cathedral Facade, Leiden — Worm's-Eye View

4 May 2025 · Leiden

Twin turrets frame a tracery window from directly below, the facade of this Leiden Gothic church compressed into near-perfect symmetry against a deep blue sky. Shot from the base of the wall, the extreme low angle turns the pinnacles into vertical punctuation marks — stone carved to draw the eye upward. The geometry does the work; the clear afternoon light holds every course of brick in sharp relief.
