Bascule Bridge Silhouette Against Dutch Summer Sky, Leiden
4 May 2025 · Leiden
A steel truss arm cuts across a massing of cumulus cloud above one of Leiden's bascule bridges, the drawbridge mechanism reduced to sharp geometry against the backlit sky. The structure does its job as infrastructure; the sky does its job as subject. Both claims hold equally — the truss gives the cloud mass a frame, and the cloud mass gives the truss a reason to be in the frame. Barrier posts and canal signage anchor the lower third, keeping this firmly in the city.
