Leica D-Lux 8
Compact digital camera with fixed Vario-Summilux zoom lens — Leica's compact lineup, contemporary entry.
The D-Lux 8 is Leica's compact zoom camera, built around a Vario-Summilux 10.9–34mm f/1.7–2.8 ASPH. lens (24–75mm equivalent) and a 17MP CMOS sensor. The body is magnesium die-cast with a button layout drawn from Leica's Q-system, and DNG raw output keeps the file workflow consistent with Leica's larger cameras.
Position in the lineup
The D-Lux 8 is for someone who wants the Leica feel and file workflow in a more compact and more affordable form than the Q-system. The fixed zoom range and magnesium body make it the camera to carry when a Q3 or M11 isn't appropriate — travel, family, day-to-day reportage where the camera should disappear into the situation. Within Leica's compact lineup it sits as the contemporary entry point, with the Sofort 2 covering the instant-photography corner of the same accessible tier.
