Chessnut Move
Self-moving robotic chessboard where each piece carries its own motor.
The Move is Chessnut's robotic chessboard. Each piece is a miniature robot — its own motor, wheels, and battery in the base — and the board moves multiple pieces simultaneously rather than one at a time with a magnet under the surface. Average move time is under three seconds, fast enough for blitz games. The recognition tech is upgraded to 1-millimetre precision, which means the board tracks pieces by exact position, not just which square they're on. Voice control and video-import position setup are built in.
Position in the lineup
The Move is the newest Chessnut, released late 2025, and the only board in the lineup where the pieces move themselves. Other robotic chessboards on the market use a single magnet under the board to drag one piece at a time — the Move puts the motor inside the piece, and any number of pieces can move at once. The wooden-pieces edition is the flagship; the plastic-pieces edition is the same board at a lower price. The trade against Evo is the playing experience: Evo is for solo study and analysis, Move is for the moment of seeing the board reset itself before a game.
