Chessnut Air
Compact entry-level smart board with full piece recognition.
The Air is the entry into the Chessnut lineup. A compact 33-centimetre board with chip-based full piece recognition — the board knows which piece is on which square at all times, not just that a square is occupied. Embedded LEDs indicate moves; the board connects over Bluetooth or USB-C to Chess.com, Lichess, and ChessKid through the Chessnut app or third-party drivers. The construction is wood-with-plastic-panel and the pieces are plastic, which is what keeps the price down without compromising the recognition tech.
Position in the lineup
The Air is the cheapest path to a real smart chessboard with full piece recognition. The boards above it (Air+, Pro) trade up to all-wood construction; Go trades down in size for ultra-portability with magnetic pieces. Air sits at the entry — full smart-board features, plastic pieces, fits in a backpack.
