Manchester Cathedral's Gothic tower rises between a curved Victorian sandstone facade and an open dramatic sky, framed by the wet paving stones of Victoria Street still damp from summer rain. The Manchester bee planters in the foreground do double work — street furniture and civic statement — marking the square as unmistakably this city.
