Kinetic Sculpture Silhouette, Liverpool Waterfront

A mechanical arm arcs against a heavy overcast sky above the River Mersey, a small figure held aloft at its tip — frozen in motion, or the suggestion of it. The cloud sits low enough to swallow the sun to a pale disc, and across the water the Liverpool skyline holds the horizon flat. It is a peculiar kind of public art: built to move, photographed still, most legible as pure graphic silhouette against the dusk light.
