Royal Liver Building at Pier Head, Liverpool
9 October 2019 · Liverpool
The Royal Liver Building rises above Liverpool's Pier Head on a heavy overcast sky, the Liver Birds perched at the crown of both towers. In the foreground, a war memorial with poppy wreaths laid at its base anchors the composition — civic memory and civic pride occupying the same cobblestone square. The Mersey Ferries terminal sits to the left, its angular contemporary form pressed against more than a century of Edwardian stonework. One square holds all of it without trying.
