The Mersey Ferry terminal building at Pier Head Liverpool, with a steel gangway bridge extending to a floating pontoon on the choppy River Mersey under an overcast winter sky.

Mersey Ferry Terminal at Pier Head, Liverpool

9 October 2019 · Liverpool

The Mersey Ferry terminal anchors the right edge of the frame while the steel gangway bridge reaches out over choppy tidal water toward the floating landing stage. An overcast winter sky fills the upper half — pale grey cloud pressing down over the River Mersey and the Birkenhead skyline faint on the far bank. The cobblestone promenade runs empty in the foreground, the railing pulling the eye straight toward the pontoon. Architecture and infrastructure share the weight here; neither dominates the other.
