Wide view of a dramatic storm front advancing over coastal dunes at Katwijk aan Zee, Netherlands. Dark rolling clouds dominate the left two-thirds of the sky; a lighter patch opens on the right. Parked cars and a small group of visitors at a nature reserve information board sit below the dune ridge in the foreground.

Storm Front Over Katwijk aan Zee Coastal Dunes

20 October 2019 · Katwijk aan Zee

A storm front rolls in from the west over the dune scrubland at Katwijk aan Zee, pulling most of the sky into deep bruised grey while a seam of lighter cloud holds open to the right. The parking area and information board at the nature reserve entrance keep the scene anchored in the ordinary — people checking a map, cars nose-in against the kerb — even as the sky turns the whole Dutch coast into weather. The storm does all the heavy work; the ground level just makes it real.
