Arnhem Centraal Interior — Biomorphic Concourse Architecture

28 October 2019 · Arnhem

Arnhem Centraal's concourse is built around a biomorphic concrete shell that folds, curves, and opens onto itself — Benthem Crouwel's structural form doing the work that a conventional ceiling would never attempt. The organic tunnel aperture frames the escalator hall beyond: hard-edged transit infrastructure held inside a void that feels grown rather than engineered. The yellow NS ticket machine at the right edge anchors the whole composition to its practical purpose. It is a public transport building that argues, quietly, for architecture as civic ambition.
